I'm looking to purchase the long-out-of-production Accurate Models Mercury Launch Escape System kit made for the large G.I. Joe Mercury capsule (nominally 1/6 scale, though actually closer to 1/8).The kit was distributed by Accurate Models and produced by HMS Creative Productions in a very short run many years ago. It provided a highly detailed Mercury launch escape tower intended to upgrade the G.I. Joe capsule into a much more accurate display model. My strong preference would be for a complete, unbuilt kit, but I would also be interested in an incomplete example if the missing parts could reasonably be reproduced. I would also consider a carefully assembled example in excellent condition. I have been searching for this kit for several years without success and would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has one they might consider selling—or who remembers another collector who may have one. I'm located in Tokyo, Japan, and am prepared to pay a fair price reflecting the kit's rarity and condition, plus shipping. Please feel free to contact me through the forum. Many thanks — Gary |

Have you tried Jim Key of accurate models directly? He sometimes does a rerun of kit when ther eis enough interest, like he does now with his Gemini kits... Good luck! |

Thank you very much for your post. I appreciate your suggestion.I did contact Jim Key directly about this back in 2022. He very kindly let me know that he did not have the patterns, molds, spare parts, or even decals remaining. He suggested contacting HMS Creative Productions, which had produced the kit for Accurate Models. I did so, but unfortunately they didn’t have anything left, either. So... it appears that trying to locate a surviving unbuilt example in a collector’s stash may be the only avenue. Thanks again, though, for your help! |

That I didn't know of course. Other suggestions you can try: the Space Model group on Facebook, or may be scale up a 3D print file to match the GI Joe capsule. I'm sure someone can do this who is a bit handy with an autocad program, or may be just the slicer software. Good luck Gary! |

Thanks very much. Those are both useful suggestions.I’m actually already a member of the Historical Space Models group on Facebook, which may be the group you mean. The 3D-print route may also become an option if I ultimately can’t locate an original kit. For now I’m going to keep trying to track down an original Accurate Models/HMS kit, but I’ll keep the 3D option in reserve. Thanks again for the suggestions and encouragement! | |
