I've compiled a text index of NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) portraits from 1978 to 1999 and shared on my website.

With 450+ entries there are bound to be mistakes and omissions, but people are welcome to steal, adapt, improve or ignore if its any use.

I've been making a general list of JSC images, but I'm currently at 12,500 indexed images and don't see an end in site so thought I'd pull some data out to share!

Gidday Adam, nice start and I know the effort that goes into it. A full inventory of crew portraits might have been easier.

It's almost the impossible task. Well done.

Thanks Mike, yeah, it is harder work than I thought in terms of me completely underestimating how many entries there would be.

There is a pretty comprehensive list of astronaut portraits on the CS pages already, but my main list concentrates on JSC numbers only as they seem to be the collectibles (the red numbered glossies), so that is what my portrait list shows, there are a fair number of unflown mission specialists, backups and ASCANs who had portraits taken.

Fantastic thanks so much Ed, although the list I published concentrates on shuttle astronauts, my main list starts at 1960. I'm guessing from the multitude of sequential numberings that there are a fair few unpublished portraits that were assigned ID numbers!

I'm trying to find some kind of web page that others can add entries to the list if they wanted, I haven't figured out how to do it yet.

Given Ed's kind additions concentrated on mainly pre shuttle era astronauts I've edited the listing to include all JSC astronaut portraits that were assigned S**-***** numbers.

You may be redirected to my homepage, but the list is still under the "more" button.

Another small addition: S66-19126 through S66-19138 are all portraits of Jack Schmitt.

Does anyone have the photo ID of John Creighton's 1978 ASCAN photo?
