We are currently editing our next film in the Apollo reflections series, this one featuring Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart Rusty Schweickart: Apollo 9 & Beyond and seeking funding through our Indiegogo campaign.

Rusty told me before, during, and after our interview with him that this would be his last, and he gave us over 80 minutes of great stories to work with, offering a unique perspective on what it means for humanity to have taken its first steps into the beyond.

In the film Rusty discusses the Apollo 9 mission in depth, his life-altering spacewalk, and our cosmic birth.

While our initial goal for post-production has been met, we started with a low goal given the pandemic, and in the meantime we have incurred additional production expenses, including the rights to include additional music that Rusty requested (among the music he took with him into space). There are still nice perks available, including film credit and the film itself along with every Apollo 9 flight image in the highest quality and resolution available.

Check out “Rusty Schweickart: Apollo 9 & Beyond” on our Indiegogo campaign.

If you haven't seen our other Apollo Reflections films, here's a couple of positive reviews:

I have just reviewed the film you produced and it looks perfect to me. I think you did an outstanding job of capturing the important points that you wanted to bring out concerning the Gemini and Apollo programs. - Gen. Tom Stafford, Gemini 6, 9, Apollo 10, and ASTP astronaut

Keep up the good work. NASA has lots of oral history but it is not as interesting and personalized as what you create … Thanks for your great work preserving some history from those who flew! - Fred Haise, Apollo 13 LMP

This new film offers something really unique, and something I am confident you will enjoy. It is the most beautiful and poignant one yet, and I will soon be making an announcement regarding its distribution I am quite excited about. Thanks!

Our film featuring Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart "Rusty Schweickart: Apollo 9 & Beyond" is complete.

It is a beautiful, thoughtful, and moving film featuring great stories and images from Apollo 9, and so much more - a perspective on the 50th anniversary and legacy of Apollo you don't often hear.

The "Prologue", the first 4 minutes of the film, gives a taste of the full film (4K, 48 minutes). Enjoy and thanks to CSers who contributed!

Just watched the "Prologue' with Rusty Schweickart.

I met Rusty once five years ago, and shared with him the flown LM Evaluation Systems Checklist, which he and Jim McDivitt annotated during the Apollo 9 mission. I look forward to seeing if the movie has this particular video clip enhanced, but regardless the prologue was excellent and I very much look forward to the seeing the full film. Congratulations to all involved.

I could say "Rusty Schweickart: Apollo 9 & Beyond" is one of the best space-themed films you will see this year - but you don't have to take my word for it:

I am proud and honored to have been helpful in producing the beautiful piece of art that is this film. From the music to the visuals to what comes out of the mind of an amazing human being, this is a seamless and for me deeply emotional work that is a major contribution to the annals of space and also human history. Rusty captures all the wonder that I felt myself growing up with the space program and continue to feel and turns it into a relatable humanistic story that had me misty-eyed through almost all of it. And, in his wonderful way of relating concepts, lets us know what we can do to help us survive as a species …

The collection of artistry and love you obviously put into this project, for me personally, ends up as greater than the sum of the individual pieces. You have produced something very special with this … What I get from it cannot be measured in any form of currency … I want to savor the incredibly warm feeling this film has given me, thank you for that gift. – Martin Lollar, executive producer

Here is the press release from the Asteroid Foundation regarding my film, Rusty Schweickart: Apollo 9 & Beyond, which is now streaming until July 4th on Asteroid Day TV.

There is a schedule of programing there set to your local time so you can watch this, and all my films.

Asteroid Day TV Premieres 'Apollo 9 & Beyond Film' Featuring Apollo 9 Astronaut Rusty Schweickart

The Asteroid Foundation premieres the worldwide release of Apollo 9 & Beyond featuring Rusty Schweickart on Asteroid Day TV. In this profoundly beautiful and moving film, Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart discusses the Apollo 9 mission, his life-altering spacewalk, and our cosmic birth and how those experiences shaped his worldview later in life. Rusty describes testing the Lunar Module, the first true spaceship that four months later would land men on the moon; his historic spacewalk, the first EVA of the Apollo era; and the incredible beauty of the Earth from space.

  • Debut: June 22, 2020 -- daily repeats of the film -- check schedule online
  • Where: Asteroid Day TV -- www.asteroidday.org -- free to the public
  • Director: Jeremy Theoret
  • Producer: Apollospace in association with Andre Ross
  • Executive Producers: Massimo Cutuli, Martin J. Lollar, Timothy M. Brooks, Danica Remy, Susan Roy
  • Distributor: Apollospace
"Astronaut Rusty Schweickart's story is one of the great ones, and the way this film tells the story has its own greatness," comments Stewart Brand, co-founder of Long Now Foundation and creator and editor of the Whole Earth Catalog (National Book Award).

"As a filmmaker with a lifelong interest in Apollo, I wanted to capture the philosophical and cosmological significance of the Apollo program. Rusty Schweickart provides that perspective and more," shared film director Jeremy Theoret from Apollospace.

"What was the real meaning of Apollo? The big meaning? That's what I asked myself anticipating the 50th anniversary of that historic moment. Jeremy Theoret captured it in this film… this is what I believe. No small challenge," said Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart.

Asteroid Day TV has been and will continue streaming through 4 July with space and asteroid films, interviews, and educational content. Asteroid Day TV is produced in partnership with Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE) and broadcast by SES through the unparalleled reach of its satellites. Private link to view the film can be requested.

About Asteroid Day:

Asteroid Day is held on 30 June each year to mark the date of Earth's largest asteroid impact in recorded history, the Siberia Tunguska event. Asteroid Day was co-founded by astrophysicist and famed musician Dr. Brian May of the rock group QUEEN, Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart, filmmaker Grig Richters; and B612 Foundation President Danica Remy to educate the public about the importance of asteroids in our history and the role they play in the solar system. In 2016, with the leadership of the Association of Space Explorers (ASE), the United Nations declared Asteroid Day to be a global day of education to raise awareness and promote knowledge in the general public about asteroids.

Asteroid Day's major partners include: Association of Space Explorers, B612 Foundation, Broadcasting Center Europe, EC GROUP, European Space Agency, Luxembourg Space Agency, OHB SE, and SES. Asteroid Day, Asteroid Day LIVE, Asteroid Day TV and SpaceConnectsUs are all programmes of Asteroid Foundation, a Luxembourg based non-profit.

About Apollospace:

Apollospace produces the most comprehensive, fully corrected, highest quality, and highest resolution space program images and image collections available. Apollospace produces high-quality films focused on space exploration with high educational and entertainment value.
