collectSPACE Astronaut creates deluxe edition of Apollo 11 moon landing planAn astronaut who set records while circling Earth aboard spacecraft and aircraft has now put together the ultimate flight plan for landing on the moon. Terry Virts, who took more photos on a space mission than any other astronaut in history and who was aboard a jet for the fastest circumnavigation of the planet via both poles, has created "Apo11o: To the Moon and Back," a deluxe publication in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing this year. "'Apo11o: To the Moon and Back' is a limited edition reproduction of the original Apollo 11 Flight Plan, the document that Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Mike Collins, and the entire mission control team in Houston used to plan and execute our first mission to land on the moon," described Virts. "Because of the 50th anniversary, my business partner and I decided that this was something that we needed to do — it was much more about the historical significance and creating something of lasting value to commemorate it than anything else." |

I am waiting for mine to arrive. I loaned Terry my version of the Apollo 11 Flight Plan, so they could compare it with the Flight Plan they were creating. This one blows my old Flight Plan replica away. |

That's a big chunck of change for what to me seems packaging rather than content. |

This certainly represents a beautiful collectable. Could I afford one? Probably yes. I would not criticise anybody who chooses to indulge as I can see the appeal. In any case, life is too short.Would I want one? Probably not. "Pimp my Flight Plan" really does not appeal to me but hey, each to their own. I'd rather spend half as much on an original. |

Do you think my wife would mind if I purchased one of these luxurious super-deluxe flight plans and then moved the wedding album off the living room coffee table and replaced it with this beauty? Very tempting, but I'm not suicidal. |

I did receive the Moon Shot Arts Apollo 11 Flight Plan book today. It is volume #3. As I compare it to my original flight plan manual from Apollo 11, it is so much more than the original flight plan manual. The artistry of the edition is exquisite. The printing renders the pages very readable. The explanations throughout the book help understand the diagrams and symbols within the flight plan for those who have not studied any of these manuals. While maybe not for the hardcore space geek who has one of the original manuals, this does make for a beautiful addition to the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary commemoratives that have been issued this year. |
