According to its soon-to-be-former staff, Johnson Space Center's Media Resource Center is closing due to budget cutbacks on Wednesday (Oct. 22). The Media Resource Center (MRC) provides a centralized location for access to thousands of still photo/digital images and video products available to domestic accredited news media, production companies, schools (or educational institutions), businesses, government entities, and civil and professional organizations. While the MRC did not directly service the public, it did support preparing imagery and video for the public affairs office. The MRC's holdings are going to be archived, but what they means for access (now or in the future) is unclear. The MRC's three-person staff have institutional knowledge dating back to Apollo that cannot be replaced. |

Wow that's sad. Sorry to hear about that but it is what happens when a huge federal bureaucracy consistently fails to get its priorities straight. |

As a member of said accredited news media, that's quite depressing, as they were invaluable (and fast) in getting me Fred Haise's shuttle flights on DVD.I hope that, as part of that archiving, they get everything onto their FTP server so access isn't lost. |

Johnson Space Center has issued the following: We regret any inconvenience to our valued media customers, and will do what we can to support requests based on funding availability, with support for current events receiving the highest priority. |

There is now a petition asking for Johnson Space Center to reconsider closing the Media Resource Center. These dedicated employees capture and maintain NASA history and make this history available to the public. Losing this group is a major disservice to the citizens of the USA and the generations for years to come. |
