Does anyone know if there have been any books written about Apollo 12 specifically or of Conrad, Bean or Gordon individually.

This group was something special. Anyone who has seen the "From the Earth to the Moon" episode (my personal favorite) will agree. There seems to be lots of material there, yet I've never seen anything.

Thanks.

This is a group whose popularity is decidedly driven by their personalities. By all accounts, Pete Conrad was an outstanding individual -- I liked the final tribute that Gordo gave him in "Leap of Faith," and Bean and Gordon are great, outgoing individuals. As a group, they may well have been the most cohesive team of any of the Apollo missions.

That said, I am not sure that the mission is any more worthy than any of the Apollo flights for a book. While I would welcome a book or two (or three) on every flight, I would probably rank Apollo 12 in the bottom half of the actual Apollo missions.

Alan Bean has written two books - "Apollo: An Eyewitness Account" and a children's book called "My Life as an Astronaut."

The nearest we'll ever get to a Pete Conrad autobiography, I think, is "The Right Stuff." There are a huge amount of Conrad's opinions and stories in that book.

'My Life as an Astronaut' is an entertaining read, it only takes an hour or so.

It's not going to tell you much you don't already know but it has some nice personal detail, such as how proud Bean is of being the first person to eat spaghetti on the moon.

Cheers,
Matt
