I have a multi-signed earth map that now bears many signatures from the early days up through the shuttle, and it's almost ready to frame. I'd still like to get the signatures of some of the women who flew, though, and I wonder if anyone might have any suggestions. I live in the Los Angeles area and I'd hope to get the autograph in person rather than risk shipping the item. I wish more of the women astronauts appeared at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation and Spacefest shows -- they deserve their kudos. Thanks all. |

Rhea Seddon will be at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Show in November. Sally Ride signs via the mail for her fee of $20 and is safe to send items to her. |

Does Sally Ride have a website where the details of her address, etc., can be found? |

Requests can be mailed via Sally Ride Science, including the donation of $20 to the "Ride Public Service Internship Program". She will not sign covers, index cards or magazine covers. |

Will Ride send an autographed 8x10 or would I have to send a photo along with the request and $20? |

Would she sign an STS-7 or 41G patch on the reverse? Do any astronauts refuse to sign the back of a mission patch other than those that just won't sign period? |

Last month, I sent simply a letter and self-addressed envelope from Ireland to Sally Ride, along with a donation.I received my envelope back from Sally Ride Science in San Diego, and enclosed was a beautiful colour 8x10 photo of her in her NASA suit signed in black marker 'Reach for the Stars, Sally K Ride'. I know for a fact that this signature is 100% authentic and it is definitely worth the donation. As far as I know she won't sign any items you send her, it is just the standard genuinely autographed photo of hers (and she won't personalize the photo either.) I didn't send any postage, just a self-addressed envelope and the donation. |

The two times I have written to her in the past few years, I have sent items both times (along with my donations) and she has signed the items I sent. It's good to know that she does supply photos to those who don't have any to send along, however. |

If you requested such, did Ride personalize those items for you? |

Yes, and did you send a donation on each time you sent, or did the one donation cover each time you sent? |

I didn't request a personalization and didn't get one. quote: Originally posted by AstroAutos: Yes, and did you send a donation on each time you sent, or did the one donation cover each time you sent?
I sent two items over the course of a couple years. Each time I sent a donation to cover the signing of each item. |

Anyone have any experience with Sally Ride signing in person? She is doing a book signing at the National Air and Space Museum on April 25 and I thought of making the trip. It would be good to know though if she will sign one other keepsake item for me. If her policy is not to do that, I won't bring it with me. If anyone has any info on that please let me know. |

I am not sure what her policy is regarding extra autographs. I would however recommend that you bring it regardless. Better to have been inconvenienced in bringing it rather than to kick yourself later for not doing so. Someone at the event will probably make an announcement on whether she will or not. It is my understanding that she will not sign envelopes. |

I have heard of her doing book signings where she won't sign anything other than her books. But it doesn't hurt to bring it, like "RMH" said, just in case... |

Do you know she is going to be in Cambridge, MA at MIT for a Sally Ride Space Festival on May 2?Maybe she would be more inclined to sign there than a book signing. It's also closer than D.C. |

Re: Cambridge, thanks for the info. I will check it out. I think I have other things scheduled for the that weekend so the trip probably will not work out.I did call the number on the Sally Ride Science website and spoke with a nice lady who said it probably would be all right to get another item signed. She was going to check with Dr. Ride's secretary and call me back, hopefully today. |

I am going to the Cambridge Science Festival with my wife as a chaperon for some of her students. Meeting Dr. Ride is a bonus. I'm not sure how much this event is open to the public versus just students and teachers/parents.

This morning Dr. Sally Ride, who flew twice on the shuttle, came to the National Air and Space Museum for a book signing. Her new book is 'Mission Planet Earth'. I arrived shortly after 11:00 AM and there was no line of people waiting to get their books signed. However, by the time I went to purchase the book, Dr. Ride had taken a break and a line of about 15 people had formed before she returned. I spoke with Dr. Ride for a minute or so after she signed by book and then it was someone else's turn. I wonder what her next book will be about. |

Glad you had a good experience. Did you notice if she was signing items other than books? I eventually was not able to make the trip to DC but probably should have. |

The person helping Dr. Ride said that she was only signing her book, without personalizing. |

I have seen Sally Ride in person and she would not sign. Rhea Seddon, Jan Davis, Eileen Collins, Janice Voss, Susan Still-Kilrain, and Anousheh Anasar have all signed in person and more than happy to. |

I would like to obtain an autograph through the mail from Megan McArthur who is now in space. Does anyone know her signing habits and how long should I wait to mail a request? I know she'll be busy post-flight for a while. She comes across as a very nice person so I'm hoping she'll come through for me. |

Megan McArthur has been very accommodating to autograph request through the mail in the past and I would think the same for the future. I usually wait a month to write to an astronaut that has recently flown. |

Seven months is not an unreasonable amount of time to wait for a response, my last two responses from astronauts took two and a half years, and six years. I've also received in a one week period recently three former Olympic athletes in the mail, each one taking three years to respond. Be patient, these are very busy individuals... |

No. Dr. Cleave has retired from NASA quite a couple of years ago, and to my knowledge she does not respond through the mail.

I had a very enjoyable time at the Nov., 2010 ASF show talking with, and getting the autograph from, Kathy Thornton. I believe (but am not sure) that she lives in VA. It was interesting going to one of the donor dinners and talking with her. There were only two female astronauts at the show, but the vast majority of people paid no attention to them (trying to talk to the usual suspects... the Apollo astronauts), so I had the chance to have a long and informative conversation with her about her 4 missions. One of the missions was "black", but she could talk about the other three. Her husband was there so it was also interesting to talk with him about the people that were left "on the ground". |

I had a great experience with Kathy Thornton at last years ASF show as well. I had just finished a conversation with Bruce McCandless and went to her just as cS's very own Robert Pearlman was finishing a conversation with her.She was very friendly and admitted she hated to charge for autographs (it has been my experience many shuttle astronauts feel the same way) but she was willing to charge for for charity events as long as it was not too much. She was very nice and the print she was signing was signed by many other shuttle astronauts and asked me where I met a few of the astronauts who signed. She was very friendly. |
