At this time, the only publicized means of obtaining an autograph is either to attend one of her events (X Prize Cup in New Mexico, the lecture and reception in Dallas) or to donate $500 to the X Prize Foundation (though the latter may have expired as it was described as being only good during the length of her trip in space).On her website appears the following: quote: For any personal messages and request of Anousheh, please Email.

I would try her at the address of her company, Prodea (address see her website).Of course, considering her flight was fairly recent, I have not had any reply through the mail yet. ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |

From well informed sources, I hear that there will be very few autographed items this time and from this launch.López and Ansari did not want to sign covers or photos prior to the mission. Also, Reiter and López onboard ISS did not flown covers, not even those 50 official ones sent up by RKK Energiya. Ansari, however, did so. ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |

As evidenced by the autograph session scheduled for her Dallas appearance and the mention in her blog of signing autographs for fans at the X Prize Cup, Anousheh Ansari doesn't appear to have an issue with signing her autograph. Its only speculation, but I think the astronaut corps are now well aware that those asking for their signature on multiple covers and photos in Star City and Baikonur are mostly dealers. If that's true, what motivation do they have to sign? Regardless of LA's and Ansari's personal reasons, I think the lesson learned here is that if collectors and dealers had exhibited some control and resisted the urge to buy and deal in free autographs, then we would all be happier today. From Armstrong onward, it would seem that the relatively few ruined it for everyone... [Edited by Robert Pearlman (October 17, 2006).] |

Simple: Russian cosmonauts upgrade their meagre salary to make ends meet by participating in these signing sessions.This leaves us with two scenarios: - the NASA astronaut is in charge: peer pressure and/or solidarity with his poor Russian colleague;
- if under the command of a Russian mission commander: follow orders.

I received word this morning that the autograph session originally scheduled and promoted to take place following Anousheh Ansari's lecture at the Frontiers of Flight Museum on Nov. 2 has been cancelled. No further explanation was given.The lecture and reception will proceed as planned, though. |

Despite the organized autograph session being cancelled, post-event reports say that Ansari sat and signed photos that she provided for more than two hours after her lecture ended. Walt Cunningham and Marcos Pontes were also in attendance for the event. |

Some of you may be interested to know that after I had two features published about Anousheh in the October and November editions of 'Spaceflight', I mailed the e-mail link quoted towards the top of this thread, asking if Anousheh would sign a couple of copies for me and Rex Hall.I expected, at best, to get a reply from one of her aides, but actually got a personal response from her private e-mail address. She had obviously recognised me as a regular poster on her blog and thanked me for my comments, and confirmed she would be delighted to autograph the magazines for us. I posted them off, with a couple of copies for her to keep, and within a couple of weeks they arrived back by FedEx, duly signed with personal messages added, and a mission patch thrown in. Since then, I've spoken to her by phone for a future 'Spaceflight' feature. She is clearly a super lady, very easy to talk to and I am sure she would be accommodating of any autograph requests, in appropriate circumstances. Tony Q |
