It looks good to me. When I saw the small scan I thought it might be printed, but the closeup convinces me it is hand-signed. I don't know why it didn't sell, but I notice he relisted it: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62&item=3244515010 |

Proably the biggest reason it didn't sell, and why it might be a toughie in general, is that most collectors don't want to shell out big bucks for an Armstrong on an Apollo 17 litho.-chet |

That would seem to be true, Chet, but I sold a litho of the Taurus Litto valley from orbit signed (uninscribed, like this one) by Armstrong for $800 something a couple of years ago. Also, the buyer could send it to Cernan at a signing and then they would have an uninscribed litho signed by the first and last men on the Moon. |

The signature is certainly good, no question, but again, it's likely going to be tougher to get the same price for this litho that one might expect if Armstrong's signature were on an Apollo 11 item instead. You got a good price for the one you sold, Scott, and were certainly fortunate, wouldn't you agree? I don't think this current seller will be as lucky.-chet |

I think the problem is that it's not the most glamorous of shots unless you happen to be a geologist. That said, it would be a nice litho to have signed by Jack Schmitt. |

Hi woodenman007, Just wanted to let you know not to send it to Cernan directly, due to its value. Wait till he does another official signing. He does them fairly regularly with Novaspace. Scott

Hi Chet, Yes the price for the Taurus Littro valley litho did surprise me. But it was mint condition, unpersonalized and signed in Armstrong's classic ornate 70s style with his famous fading blue marker (yet it had obviously been in storage and was unfaded). Still it surprised me. But this hobby is a good deal black magic and is certainly unpredictable. I myself toyed around with the idea of sending it to Cernan, but never got around to it. I still think it's a good idea on something like this.

I always thought the idea of having something signed by the first and last men on the moon was awesome. -chet |

Hello all, I can vouch for Scott---I was the owner of the Apollo 17 litho prior to him. It was a gorgeous piece, with one of the nicest Armstrong signatures I’ve ever seen. My intentions were the same---to have Cernan sign and inscribe something along the lines of “First and last men…” My thinking was it would instantly correct the issue of Armstrong being on an Apollo 17 litho. However, time went by, and so did a Cernan signing, so I sold it to add a WSS to my collection. It is funny how these collectibles make rounds among our collecting friends!Woodenman007's piece currently for sale does have a super-nice signature, I must say. If so desired, A Cernan could easily be added. Heck, it is very easy to add Buzz, and you may get lucky with Schmitt....but I really think it would be better with just the first and the last. Regards, Andrew Messer

I remember you Andrew, I promise. I just didn't want to bring you into it without you knowing. Yes the item was wonderful, like everything I've gotten from you. I miss it and wish I had not had to sell it. |
