With China expecting to resume Shenzhou crewed flights in 2021, I was curious where the previously six flown reentry modules are today.Shenzhou 5, flown by Yang Liwei in 2003, is on exhibit at the National Museum of China in Beijing. Shenzhou 10, flown by Nie Haisheng, Zhang Xiaoguang and Wang Yaping in 2013, was just this week moved to the Shaoshan Mao Zedong Memorial Museum in the Hunan Province of China. The reentry capsule of Shenzhou-10 manned spacecraft was officially handed over to Shaoshan in Central China's Hunan Province — the birthplace of late Chinese leader Mao Zedong on Friday [Dec. 25, 2020], a day ahead of the 127th anniversary of Mao's birth.Officials including those with the Hunan provincial government, China's Manned Space Project, and Chinese astronaut delegation, witnessed the grand ceremony on Friday. After the ceremony, the craft will be exhibited in Shaoshan Mao Zedong Memorial Museum. Beyond those two, I have only found information on temporary, post-flight exhibits, but no permanent homes for: - Shenzhou 6 (Fei Junlong, Nie Haisheng)
- Shenzhou 7 (Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming, Jing Haipeng)
- Shenzhou 9 (Jing Haipeng, Liu Wang, Liu Yang)
- Shenzhou 11 (Jing Haipeng, Chen Dong)
I do not believe any Shenzhou capsule has been exhibited outside of China. The Shenzhou 11 spacecraft was displayed in Hong Kong in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, but it is not clear where the capsule is today. | |
