Join us as the U.S. Space & Rocket Center welcomes former astronaut and current director of Kennedy Space Center, Robert D. Cabana, for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the T-38 NASA astronaut trainer jet on Friday, June 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. The twin-engine supersonic jet used in astronaut training bears Cabana's name. A member of the Astronaut Hall of Fame, Cabana's many awards include being named an Associate Fellow in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Larry LaRose, a former NASA flight engineer whose name is also noted on the T-38, will attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony too.
The Center acquired the T-38 in 2012 from the El Paso Museum of History in Texas, and
A&E's "Shipping Wars" television show transported the 5,000-pound jet to Huntsville in January, 2013. This past January, the jet was mounted in a flight position at the Center's Shuttle Park, where the Pathfinder orbiter is on display.
