Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex has raised its admission fee by $7 in its first increase since 2012, reports Florida Today.
The standard admission price is going up $7, to $57 for adults (age 12 and over) and $47 for children ages 3 to 11, increases of 14 percent and 18 percent, respectively.

A smaller $4 bump will be implemented for senior citizens and military service members, who will now pay $50, up 9 percent. There’s no change for student field trips or to a $10 parking fee.

Delaware North, which has operated the tourist center for NASA since 1995 without federal or state tax dollars, says the price increase is the first since 2012 and follows major upgrades in recent years, with more on the way.

The price increases follow record Visitor Complex attendance of more than 1.7 million guests in 2017, topping levels before the shuttle program retired in 2011.

I always enjoyed seeing the "Moon Tree" in the plaza at KSC. I hope that another might be planted with second generation seeds from another tree. Seeing the Atlantis at the end of the tour is certainly an "Ahhhhhhhhh" moment and Delaware North did a great display with it. An annual pass to KSC is a bargain in my opinion.

It remember my first visit to KSC was with high school friends on a graduation trip to Florida in 1989. I don’t remember the price of the ticket but none of us had much money and I don’t remember us complaining about the expense. I doubt a similar group today could afford such a wonderful experience.

My sixth-grade class went to Six Flags Great Adventure. I'm not much into roller coasters so I haven't been there in a while.

I just checked and am surprised (but not really): A one-day admission online for today (July 27) is $71.99, which is an $8 savings. That's park admission only, not including the cost of the bus.

Granted, it's sort of apples and oranges. And there are cheaper days - need a ticket for Monday and it's $54.99, a $25 savings.

But I think today a high school class in Florida could afford a trip to KSCVC by comparison.

You’re correct in the premise it’s more affordable than most theme parks. When I stated a similar group maybe couldn't afford it I was talking in the context of my, and my friends' ability to buy our way in with our own money at 18 years old which we did. At that time we also paid our way into Disney and Busch Gardens, which was also much cheaper. I just lament that today you have to rely on your parents to afford such pleasures.

We paid for our DECA trips, including the state conference at Niagara Falls, by selling snacks one 50-cent package at a time.

When my kid is of the age to take field trips, they will have to come up with the money on their own. No handouts. No canning.
