Up near the Oklahoma border sits the little town of Quanah, Texas, the hometown of astronaut Ed Givens. The folks in Quanah are very proud to be associated with Ed, and they have a special Ed Givens Space Room in their town museum which features many personal artifacts, as well as others on loan from NASA, including a Walt Cunningham WSS.

Very recently, to their great joy, a collectSPACE regular, David Temple, spontaneously donated to them a magnificent piece to exhibit. It is a 1/96th scale model of CSM 008 and a 1/200th scale Apollo "stack" that represents Apollo 1.

Before his tragic death, Ed was closely associated with both spacecraft. The models are beautifully mounted on a wooden base, on either side of an Apollo 1 mission patch, together with a descriptive plaque and a host of relevant NASA photos.

David obviously put a lot of work and time into this wonderful gift, and the museum supporters have told me just how much they appreciate his kindness. Having been to the museum, and being a supporter of it myself, I wish to add my own thanks and appreciation to a great collectSPACE fellow.

On an associated note, David recently informed me that a naval academy uniform once belonging to Ed Givens had surfaced on eBay. I quickly contacted the museum and they in turn made what turned out to be the winning bid. The uniform will now take pride of place in the Ed Givens Space Room.

The life of Ed Givens means a lot to me and to the good people of Quanah, and it is wonderful to know that the friendship, interest and support of such incredibly generous people as David Temple has greatly enhanced this proud tribute to Quanah's favourite son.

Thanks for the kind words, Colin - glad to help. Probably none of it would have happened had you not written "Fallen Astronauts" and made your posting in regard to the 37th anniversary of Givens death. It's an excellent example of one thing leading to another.
