They are not being mothballed; they are beginning a new mission of inspiring and educating present and future generations about living and working in space. They will serve as engineering reference examples for future spacecraft designers and stand as testaments to the many satellites, planetary probes and two space stations they serviced (which could not return to Earth, at least not intact). And they will serve as monuments to the thousands of people who oversaw their successful and safe flight as the world's first reusable crewed orbital spacecraft. | |
