Astronauts Deke Slayton (left) and Gordon Cooper (third from left) inspect Launch Complex 13 at Cape Canaveral, where Atlas 44D is prepared to launch a suborbital ICBM test. Launch took place on January 27, 1960, four days after this visit. Pointing at the missile between Slayton and Cooper is Karel Bossart, designer of the Atlas.

Wonderful picture! I met Charley Bossart when we spent the summer of 1962 in Santa Barbara.
