On May 6, 1992, replicas of Columbus' sailing ships Santa Maria, Nina and Pinta sailed by Space Shuttle Endeavour on Kennedy Space Center's Launch Pad 39B, awaiting liftoff on its maiden voyage STS-49. The replicas, managed by the Spain '92 Foundation, travelled to ports around the Gulf of Mexico and up the Atlantic Coast to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Columbus' voyage to the New World. |

A cool photo no doubt.A slightly even more fun alignment would have been if the shuttle had been the "Columbia," a name derived from Columbus of course. | |
