Half a century ago this week, tension was building at the Kennedy Space Center as the world waited for the launch of Apollo 11. The photo shows Cheryl Tuchman of the KSC Medical Operations Laboratory taking a blood sample from NASA photographer Bill Taub. The procedure was dictated by the semi-quarantine protocol, to make sure Taub didn't carry any germs before he was allowed to photpograph the crew on the day before launch. Taub was responsible for many iconic images during Mercury, Gemini and Apollo.

Once again, thank you.

Your selections not only show different perspectives of the well known moments; but also provide insight into the minutia of the programme that we often don't think about.
