Half a century ago this week, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin performed the first full-scale simulation of their planned lunar surface activities at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston. Observing the proceedings at left is astronaut Owen Garriott, one of the CapComs for the mission. Garriott passed away this week at age 88.

I am sure they had a coolant garment on as it would have been hot. Was the suit and PLSS sized for 1/6 earth gravity weight? Also was the stiffness simulated as well to be like it would be in a vacuum?

This photo of the simulation made me chuckle a bit because it looks as if Buzz is standing a little ways away waiting for his famous "visor shot."
