Half a century ago this week, NASA test pilot Joe Algranti ejected from Lunar Landing Training Vehicle no. 1 during a final checkout flight of the craft before it would be released for astronaut training. The LLTV had been grounded since Neil Armstrong's crash in a similar vehicle in May 1968.

Saw of video of the LLRV "flying bedstead" flying at Edwards... Flight 23 or 24 and I was amazed it occurred so relatively close to a parked U-2 and a B-47 StratoJet!
