Apollo-Saturn AS-205, the launch vehicle for Apollo 7, is seen on Launch Complex 34 during a swing arm test in late June 1968. Note that the launcher is topped by the Spacecraft-LM Adapter (SLA-5) only. The spacecraft (CSM-101) was still undergoing tests in the KSC altitude chamber at the time the photo was taken.

Ed, the photos you come up with are so interesting — thank you for the effort each week.

I love your photos — they have a unique perspective. In this photo my eyes fix on the launch pedestal, all that is left of Pad 34 today.

These photos, with the specific dates, also really make me remember the national context in which the photos were taken.

For example, for this particular photo, Bobby Kennedy had just been assassinated a couple of weeks earlier. Imagine the "general black cloud" hanging over the workers as they work on this exciting project but with heavy hearts.

What times they were.

Another great photo, Ed. Thank you for sharing. I love seeing photos of Launch Pad 34. The good ole days when there were activities at the pads.

All times are CT (US)
