Spacewalking STS-49 astronaut Pierre Thuot prepares for his attempt to capture the errant Intelsat VI satellite (out of frame) with a specially designed capture bar during an EVA on May 10, 1992. However, the attempt failed and the satellite was later captured by hand during the first and only three-man EVA.

In October 2004, shortly after I moved to Houston, there was an ASE event at Rocket Town located in Webster, Texas (near JSC). There were 10 astronauts in attendance.
I was busy talking to a guy while watching a video on a large screen of 3 astronauts capturing a satellite, when I commented something to the effect that I thought that was a pretty cool thing to be doing. The guy I was talking to pointed to one of the astronauts and said enthusiastically "that's me." Unknowingly I had been shooting the breeze with Rick Hieb; STS49 mission specialist and spacewalker!
