Space Shuttle Discovery rests on Launch Pad 39B at KSC after completing its rollout from the Vehicle Assembly Building in May 2006, in preparation for mission STS-121. One year later the STS-118 crew used the photo as backdrop for their crew portrait.

Clearly, they were photoshopped in, instead of the Apollo pics with actual presence which I prefer to see.

Was the moon photoshopped in too?

The power of Photoshop. Apollo 14 remains the best crew portrait.

Mark Kelly flew on STS-121 Discovery. Scott Kelly (shown) flew on STS-118, but that was Endeavour. They even changed the name on the orbiter from Discovery to Endeavour in the group photo.

I'm not a fan of all the photoshopping.

I always preferred the crew photos with the plain blue backdrop that have the flags and a model or two and show the crew patch. There were some that I liked that did not follow that system, 51-F with the payload was good.

A photo like KSC-07pd1959 would make a better official shuttle crew portrait than anything photoshopped.

Ironically, the STS-121 crew portrait was also photoshopped. The name on the side of the orbiter in that photo was changed from Atlantis to Discovery.

Apollo 17 at the pad with the Saturn V in the background. Now there's a crew portrait.
