USAF pilots Bob Rushworth and Joe Engle with the X-15 at Edwards AFB on August 7, 1965. Looks like they are in awe of the NASA meatball logo on the nose of the hypersonic research aircraft.

James "Jim" Modarelli, Cleveland, Ohio, was the designer of the NASA "meatball" insignia. He passed away Sept. 27, 2002, and was inducted into NASA Glenn's Hall of Fame last year.
