Dawn breaks over the Kennedy Space Center as Space Shuttle Columbia waits for launch on November 4, 1981. The launch attempt was scrubbed later that morning because of high oil pressure in two of the three auxiliary power units. STS-2 was eventually launched on November 12.

I remember that launch countdown very well and how disappointing it was when is was scrubbed at T-31 seconds, if I remember correctly?

Another beautiful photo! Thanks for sharing!

You remember correctly. And I'm sure you weren't as disappointed as I was, standing at the Press Site!

That's what happens when you buy a used spacecraft.

Even in 1981 you needed to change your oil every three to five thousand miles. They were way over due.

All times are CT (US)
