No longer weightless, STS-7 mission specialist Sally Ride waits until the hatch is opened as she stands on the middeck of space shuttle Challenger after landing at Edwards AFB on June 24, 1983. |

Don't recall seeing this one before, Ed, of Dr. Ride awaiting the crew's departure from Challenger after their landing at Edwards AFB. Imagine her excitement and thrill at becoming the first American woman in space. She seems very happy in the photograph. |

Thanks Ed. It's always good to see a new photo and one showing a crew member inside the spacecraft following the return to Earth is a bonus. The crew must be so excited at this time and just wanting that hatch to open so that they can meet friends and family again. After the concerns preceding re-entry, the release of tension must be a great relief. On a lesser scale, I suppose those of us who have returned from a journey abroad and are sitting in the aircraft waiting for the doors to open must know a tiny bit about what they are feeling. Of course shuttle crews don't have to go to the baggage claim! |

My thought would've been "BATH" then "SHOWER" as well. |
