The face of Apollo 10 commander Tom Stafford is reflected in one of the windows of lunar module Snoopy during its solo flight around the moon in May 1969. Stafford and lunar module pilot Gene Cernan flew the LM to within 15 kilometers of the surface in a final dress rehearsal for Apollo 11. John Young remained aboard CSM Charlie Brown during Snoopy's solo flight.

Another unusual and artful composition from Gene Cernan. I'm sure extensive training helped but along with many of his colleagues there were some very gifted photographers in the astronaut corps.

Great image, Ed, and as always thanks for these posts.

I believe that is a frame from the 16mm onboard film.

Interesting, and thanks. Hadn't realized it was from 16mm footage.

Having now watched the source video I can see at about 31:12 where the still frame was acquired.

It originally struck me as having a careful focus-point, a needed over-exposure to capture the reflection, and composition for aesthetics. In the context of the overall clip it seems more like Ed curated one of the better frames out of an otherwise casual pan around the LM cabin. Might have 'over-thought' that one!

Whatever the weapon, I like the shot - even if a lucky one.

I like the footage of the pressure helmet floating around in the LM behind Cernan. I thought they would have been wearing the helmets during the solo flight.
