A view of construction work at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston in early 1963. The Mission Control Center is in the background, but the cars in the foreground are the real reason I wanted to post this photo! |

Can understand your reasoning Ed. Holland, being flat, has only bicycles so cars must be quite a rare sight. |

I know others have said something like this before, but one of the things that impresses me about the space exploration missions of the 60's and 70's is comparing the spacecraft and their components (computer, guidance, radar, communications, etc.) to other technology of the day; i.e. the cars. People of the future will probably do the same thing: "They had astronauts living in orbit while on Earth they still had cell phones that weren't permanently implanted? Ha ha ha!" |

I got to relive that automotive period in time this past summer during a trip to Cuba. I would guess 40 to 50% of the cars we saw were American and from the 40s and 50s.I always wanted a Corvair, damn that Ralph Nader. |
