Forty-six years ago today, Apollo 8 astronauts (l-r) Lovell, Anders and Borman stood next to their spacecraft aboard the recovery ship USS Yorktown after the first manned flight to the moon. It had been a week I will never forget.

Very nice picture! Thanks for sharing. Those smiles are priceless. If only we knew the thoughts going through their heads at that moment. I envy those of you who got to witness this historical event as it happened.

This APOLLO 8 Recovery Post Mission Report by the Commanding Officer of the USS Yorktown contains lots of information about the Apollo 8 recovery operations.
1140 Astronauts complete initial medical examination and proceed via port side to Hangar Deck to view Command Module.
