All three X-15 ships are seen together in a hangar at Edwards AFB in this rare shot taken on April 23, 1964. They were set up for filming of the NASA film 'Project X-15'.

Awesome picture Ed! I wonder which one local pilot (from nearby Madison, Maine) Bob Rushworth flew?

All three, according to this Wikipedia summary.

My god!!! I didn't realise the X-15 went 6800mph way back in 1966, that's just amazing.

Great image by the way Ed.

That's 6800 km/h, which is about 4500 mph. Still an incredible feat!

And great picture Ed!

Congratulations Ed on showing remarkable restraint with this photo considering current events elsewhere in the world.

Oops, my bad, and there was me about to blame Wackypedia! Thought the Mach number looked low but didn't bother to check.

No sweat, NASAMAD! Those of us in the US still like to use archaic measurement systems in order to cause confusion...and it works! lol

It seems that the papers can't write about anything else than soccer these days. Today's paper has fourteen (14!!!) pages about the Dutch victory over Costa Rica. So I decided against an Apollo 17 orange soil photo...

I'm not even a soccer fan and I "got" that reference...what do I win, Ed?

A thought - the astronauts wear orange spacesuits, so does this mean that they are all closet supporters of the Dutch football team?

To take it further, logically the astronauts wear orange, the Dutch footballers wear orange, therefore the Dutch football team are astronauts. Q.E.D.

Picture problem solved.

All times are CT (US)
