Outstanding and beautiful photo!!! We were still taking our baby steps out of the spacecraft. Those days were so exciting with our eyes looking to the moon!! We still had a lot to learn!! THANK YOU Ed for posting it. Gemini was so exciting and many people forget all about it! |

I wonder what Buzz would have thought at the time if you told him that the next time he went out into vacuum, he'd be walking on the Moon... |

Wonder where his Gemini 12 EVA suit is... in storage? |

Thank you James Lovell for taking a nice series of EVA photos on Gemini 12.Is the photo oriented the way Lovell would have seen Aldrin out the window? |

No, it is upside-down in relation to Lovell's position. It is also cropped.Lovell apparently had difficulty aiming his camera: Aldrin is partially out of frame in most of the pictures. |

Considering the small Gemini window Lovell had to shoot through, I think he did pretty well. These restorations are appreciated Ed. |

Was Buzz the first person to go EVA on two different flights? |

Yes he was. Followed by Pete Conrad (Gemini XI counting exposure to vacuum as an EVA, Apollo 12) and Dave Scott (Apollo 9 SEVA and Apollo 15 SEVA), then Gene Cernan (Gemini IX-A, Apollo 17). Which brings us to another interesting statistic, if you think about it: Dave Scott was the first person to conduct 3 EVAs (on Apollo 15's EVA 1) and then 4 and 5. |

Jim McDivitt was exposed to an EVA vacuum on Gemini 4 and Apollo 9. |

By U.S. standards though, exposure to the vacuum of space is not considered going EVA. Pre-shuttle, your body (or some part thereof) would have needed to exit the vehicle; during shuttle, your spacesuit would need to be switched to internal power. |

Unofficially, if you stayed inside the spacecraft - like Lovell - you could call it an internal EVA. I have seen it referred to as an "intra-vehicular activity" or IVA. |

Okay, using the pre-Shuttle exclusion of simply being exposed to vacuum not being an EVA, then McDivitt and Conrad lose out, as does John Young who stayed fully inside the Apollo 9 CSM. The first astronauts to conduct multiple EVAs on different missions are, in order: - Aldrin (Gemini XII, Apollo 11)
- Scott (Apollo 9 SEVA, Apollo 15 SEVA);
- Cernan (Gemini IX-A, Apollo 17);
- Conrad (Apollo 12, SL-2)
Scott is still the first to do 3, 4 and 5 EVAs, unless I have overlooked something. |

Is the white mist behind Aldrin some surrounding oxygen or a reflection in the window? Speaking of which, do we know this shot was taken out the window as opposed to out the door?Thanks Ed for another fine image. |

This photo was taken through Lovell's window, so probably a reflection... |

It looks like this Gemini video clip number FTV-0002722 from footagevault was taken at the same time as the Aldrin photo above.Aldrin holds up two messages in the video: one is NOV 11 VETS DAY and the other is GO ARMY BEAT NAVY, the latter a response to the BEAT ARMY message on Gemini 6A. |
