 Comedian Bill Dana (center) is joined by four Mercury astronauts during a social gathering in 1963. On the left are John Glenn and Deke Slayton, on the right Gordo Cooper and Wally Schirra. Dana was famous for his ‘reluctant astronaut’ routine featuring José Jiménez, performed on the Steve Allen Show in 1959, which became increasingly popular during the 1960s. Ed Hengeveld |

Oh to have been there! I bought Bill Dana's CD at the June 2007 KSC autograph show and he was interesting to talk to. I've listened to it many times since. Interestingly the only guy in the photo I haven't met is John Glenn! Go figure. |

I remember, at the autograph show in New Jersey in 2005, sitting in the bar with Bill Dana and Wally Schirra. Just the two of them kept us all laughing to the point of tears! I can't imagine what it would have been like to see more of them together! |
