Shuttle Carrier Aircraft NASA-905 ferries Columbia back to KSC on March 1, 2001, after a lengthy refurbishment period at the Rockwell plant in Downey. Several hours earlier Columbia's sister-ship Atlantis was ferried back by NASA-911 from Dryden to KSC, following the STS-98 mission. Although they were many miles apart, this was the first and only time two orbiters were being ferried at the same time. Ed Hengeveld |

Thank you Ed. So many happy memories, but now all viewed with a wistful melancholy. |

Beauty is in the eye. There was always something about Columbia that was special. Maybe it is a first love kinda thing. |

Do any photos exist of both the orbiters and SCA's together at KSC after their arrivals? |

Sorry, I didn't mean that in a negative way. The cosmetic appearance of the orbiter is reflective of it's purpose in life, and oh what a purpose. |

History-in-Miniature, no need to apologize! I remember seeing Columbia in the OPF once about 15-20 years ago, with a big glob of seagull excrement decorating a tile right in front of the windscreen. It really brought home how these pristine-on-the-inside spacecraft take a beating on the outside... |
