Shuttle Carrier Aircraft NASA-905 ferries Columbia back to KSC on March 1, 2001, after a lengthy refurbishment period at the Rockwell plant in Downey. Several hours earlier Columbia's sister-ship Atlantis was ferried back by NASA-911 from Dryden to KSC, following the STS-98 mission. Although they were many miles apart, this was the first and only time two orbiters were being ferried at the same time.

Thank you Ed. So many happy memories, but now all viewed with a wistful melancholy.

Beauty is in the eye. There was always something about Columbia that was special. Maybe it is a first love kinda thing.

Do any photos exist of both the orbiters and SCA's together at KSC after their arrivals?

Sorry, I didn't mean that in a negative way. The cosmetic appearance of the orbiter is reflective of it's purpose in life, and oh what a purpose.

History-in-Miniature, no need to apologize! I remember seeing Columbia in the OPF once about 15-20 years ago, with a big glob of seagull excrement decorating a tile right in front of the windscreen. It really brought home how these pristine-on-the-inside spacecraft take a beating on the outside...
