Overall view of Apollo spacecraft 105 in Building 49 at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston before acoustic vibration testing in early 1968. Astronaut Gordon Cooper manned the vehicle for the tests.

Why does the escape tower have all of that yellow tape?

The lines are probably part of the test gear and sensors to monitor the vibration of the escape tower during the oscillation tests. A former co-worker of mine was part of the this test. He told me that once the vibration of the tower became so dramatic that Cooper exited the command module for fear that the whole stack was about to collapse. This test must have really pushed the limits.

Interesting photo. I enjoy them.
Gordo got all the shakin' without the benefit of a Lunar launch.

The CSM is in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum as the Apollo half of the ASTP display there.

Fascinating. I hope there is a storyboard explaining it's history...

Building 45 must be enormous. Where is it located on the JSC Campus?
