Apollo 8 astronauts Borman, Lovell and Anders enjoy a quiet Christmas moment in the crew quarters at Cape Kennedy, one day before departing for another world in December 1968.

Merry Christmas everybody!

Merry christmas to you Ed and to all others. Nice pic, even the christmas tree doesn't look European-style.

What I see is three explorers though they would rather be with their families concentrating on business at hand in true pioneer fashion as they prepare to go where no human being has gone before. Great photo!

I see three highly qualified test pilots that are ready to push the outside of the envelope like it has never been pushed before.

I don't believe Anders was a test pilot. I think this is covered in the great book "In The Shadow of the Moon" by French and Burgess but will need to go back and check to make sure.

That's correct. A pilot, but not a test pilot. So two test pilots and a fighter pilot who will push the envelope like it was never pushed before.

All times are CT (US)
