This alternate portrait of the STS-95 crew is a tribute to the iconic photo of the Original Seven taken in 1960, which also includes John Glenn. Apparently the relative positions of the crewmembers were carefully chosen. Glenn, of course, occupies the same position as in the original photo. Commander Curt Brown is in Deke Slayton’s spot, Scott Parazinski is at front-right, just like Scott Carpenter in the 1960 photo. Chiaki Mukai is the shortest, just like Gus Grissom. Any other similarities?

Pedro Duque ESA astronaut from Spain on Al Shepard's spot. "O.K., José, you're on your way!" (Capcom Deke Slayton after lift-off of Freedom 7 on May 5, 1961). It was a reference to a hispanic spaceman dubbed José Jiménez (a fictional character created and performed on television by comedian Bill Dana).

Pedro's nickname in Spain during that flight was Juan Glenn.

Steve Lindsey is in Gordo's spot. Did he say: "Whose the best pilot I ever saw - why your lookin' at him."

This is a true classic!

I have the one taken in 1960, signed by all 7. You have given me a new mission, to get THIS photo signed by all 7.
