Forty years ago today, Apollo 13 was ready for launch at the Kennedy Space Center. An intense week for the space program and the world was about to begin.

Actually, depending on if that photo was taken before launch day (which might be the case given the crane in the background), the O2 tank coil would have been fine at that point. If it was taken after the countdown demonstation test, then the chain of events leading to what happened on the way to the moon were fully in work.

I imagine those thoughts, amongst others, have run through Lovell and Haise's minds a few times looking at this photo.

P.S. How many months for repair the defect were necessary?
