STS-3 commander Jack Lousma checks the weather before sitting down for the preflight breakfast in the crew quarters at KSC in March 1982. Several hours later he was launched together with pilot Gordon Fullerton for the third flight of Space Shuttle Columbia.

Great photo Ed...

I was 12 years and had the shuttle fever and cycled 10 km every day to train station in Heerlen for buying the newspaper USA Today and Washington Post just for the photos, which were hard to get...

Extraordinarily beautiful flight.

He's looking to see if anyone painted the ET white while he was asleep.

May this serve as a reminder to keep Gordo Fullerton in your prayers.

I think he's checking on whether or not Fullerton absconded with his breakfast! (Or perhaps, whether Fred Haise is suiting up to take Fullerton's place.)

After waiting so long to fly again the jovial mood of launch day is replaced as the commander checks out some female tech's across at the VAB

LOL. Almost anyone but Jack. A more dedicated gent to his wife than he you'd be hard pressed to find. He and Gratia adore each other.

I shared this with him and in his usual self deprecating way thought the forum was hard up for good images. Tongue in cheek of course, Jack is one of THE finest gentlemen out there.

I personally like it, I can see the steely eyed missile man "looking forward to a beautiful mission".

I totally agree. Three years ago our daughter asked him, "Who's your favorite princess? Mine's Cinderella!" He replied, "My favorite princess is my wife." It was obvious he meant it.

Great photo! Nothing beats a good weather briefing like simply looking out the window.

I'd second that, together with his Skylab colleagues.

Nope, definitely a "weather check". The man said so himself!

I am a bit of a romantic and think this is fantastic. Great to see a couple who still adore each other after so many years married.

I did the same in Italy (the newspapers were "Il Corriere della Sera","Il Tempo").

Now with internet we may found a lot of pictures, but in those times I bought a whole magazine for one little photo.
