 Forty years ago today, Apollo 11 was on its way to the moon. Most of Africa and portions of Europe can be seen in this view of the earth, snapped from a distance of about 40,000 miles. Ed Hengeveld |

As I am seeing this pic they were 40 years ago at this moment looking out the window with the TV camera and sending down the view as they looked out the window and saw this! I love the NASA audio file on their website! |

This along with the picture (Apollo 17: African Continent) that helped spawn the environmental movement, are the only clear and distant pictures I've seen of Earth.Were there any taken showing North America, from the same relative distance? |
