Forty years ago today, the Apollo 12 astronauts were inspecting the ALSEP components that they were to deploy on the moon later in the year. With two missions to be flown before it would be their turn, the crew was already deep into preparations for their own flight. From right are commander Pete Conrad, LMP Al Bean, unidentified technician, support crewmember Gerry Carr and chief astronaut Deke Slayton.
