Forty years ago today, the space-year 1969 started with the rollout of AS-504. This was the Saturn 5 carrying Apollo 9, the first complete Apollo spacecraft, which was scheduled for launch in February. It would be the first manned test flight of the Lunar Module, flown by astronauts McDivitt, Scott and Schweickart. Ed Hengeveld |

I saw Apollo 9 on the pad during a Kennedy tour with my parents, brother and grand-parents. I was barely five at the time and the memories are blurry at best - but I was there! Thanks for posting the picture. |

Apollo - 9, a clearly under rated mission but vitally important in the next step toward the first Moon landing. Thanks for posting that pic!------------------ Dave, NAR # 21853 SR. Challenger 498 Section NAR Advisor |

It's quite amazing to think that 13 days after the launch of Apollo 8, you already had Apollo 9 rolling to the pad. |
