On December 9, 1968, Charles Lindbergh signed a memorial document to be hung in the treaty room of the White House, honoring the Apollo 7 and 8 crews (who also signed the document). Sitting at the table are astronauts Walt Cunningham, Donn Eisele, Wally Schirra, Bill Anders and Jim Lovell. Standing are Mrs. and President Johnson, Jim Webb, Vice President Humphrey and Frank Borman.

Wow! It makes me proud just to have had the honor of meeting two of the astronauts (Wally and Walt) sitting at the table! Wonderful picture!!

A (cropped) version of this photo appears in A. Scott Berg's comprehensive biography "Lindbergh" - nice to see the wider shot, Ed, thanks.

A different shot taken at the same event appears in our book In the Shadow of the Moon (page 302, for anyone who wishes to compare the shots).

Not sure what it is about this photo, but it almost looks like a painting. And it's very 'historical' looking.

Ed, as always, thanks for posting. I always look forward to the next one!

This would have been taken just before the Apollo 8 crew entered quarantine right?

Outstanding shot Ed.

I think this photo was taken just after the Apollo 8 mission. Early January 1969, just before Johnson left office.

I found another view of the event and Ed is correct... it was taken in December, 1968.

There's something I don't understand here. Why would have they honored the Apollo 8 crew BEFORE they actually flew to the Moon?

Another great photo Ed!

Just wanted to point out that I've started a similar topic on unmanned spacecraft and information technology used in the robotic exploration of the solar system and space borne astronomy telescopes here.

It is hard to believe that only 41 years had passed between the Spirit of St. Louis flight by Lindbergh and the flight of Apollo 8. That launch was 43 years ago.

Charles Lindbergh was at the Cape to watch Apollo 8 launch men to the Moon. How amazing is that?

Truly one of the best space-related photos ever taken.
