This one is for Lola Morrow, who probably picked these curtains. The Apollo-8 prime and backup crews discuss details of the upcoming mission with NASA personnel in a conference room in the KSC crew quarters. Shown are astronauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, Bill Anders, Neil Armstrong, Fred Haise, Buzz Aldrin and Vance Brand (who was CapCom during the flight). This photo was supplied by J.L. Pickering. Discussing? I don't see anyone discussing, only one speaks. The others only look around. |

No. I zoomed in on the gentleman next to Armstrong, and it's definitely not an astronaut that I could identify.Looks to me as if Borman and Aldrin have a discussion going on... |

I am by no means certain, but it looks a lot like photos I have seen of Gene Horton, a NASA public information officer. |

Sure does, Tim, and from the looks of it, seems that Neil wants no part of it. If I remember correctly, Borman and Aldrin wouldn't be described as friends. |

Actually, it looks like Neil is mining for gold there.Did Buzz really have many "friends" among his fellow astronauts? He apparently got along really well with Lovell during Gemini XII, but from all accounts Lovell was one of the friendlier and more easy-going guys. If you couldn't get along with Lovell, you couldn't get along with anyone. |

That's a safe bet! Seeing the Apollo 8 prime and Backup crews together, I can't help but wonder what would have transpired if Charlie Duke had exposed Lovell to the measles in December '68 (instead of Mattingly a few years later). Imagine Borman's reaction when Slayton told him he'd have Buzz in the CM with him for 6 days... I have a feeling it wouldn't have been "Golly Gee Whiz, Deke!" |

Hi Ed,Another great picture of the guys. I didn't order the drapes. There were several conference rooms being set up in the Manned Spacecraft Operations Bldg (MSOB) at the same time. To save expenses, GSA ordered the same drapes for all. They were terrible then and still are...ugh!. Thank heavens, they never interfered with any furnishings that I ordered. |
