Thirty-eight years ago this month: the launch of Apollo-7 is seen from the south in this great view, tracked down by Joel Powell. In the foreground are the launch pads for the Atlas rockets. Ed Hengeveld |

Ed--One of my favorite Apollo 7 launch photos that Koppel made into a postcard image for NASA Tours at Kennedy Space Center. You can clearly see one of the old Atlas-Centaur pads (#36) in the foreground with Complex 11 alongside it to the north. |

Actually we are seeing LC-13 in the foreground - gantry and umbilical tower are not LC-36A. The other pad is LC-14. LC-11 never had the upper levels extended for multistage Atlases.Art |

Great shot, Ed!I got some film in this week for our "Cape" set. Great construction footage of 14, 19, 34, 37 and 39. I also got in aerials from 1958 and several years in the 60's. Cool stuff. Can't wait to work with it when my current backlog of stuff is done! (X-15 and Apollo 11)... Mark |

Ed - great shot! Once again, an amazing photo. Have you ever thought of starting a website, like the Astronomy Photo of the Day folks? You'd be a google-UTube-net mogul in a heart beat. Rich |

Mark, I cannot wait for the "Cape" DVD's to be completed. Your Liftoff series just wetted my appetite. Glad to hear you're making progress by taking delivery of the films. [Edited by hlbjr (October 21, 2006).] |

Joel is pretty active these days. He has just published a very nice book with Art LeBrun: 'GO for launch - An illustrated history of Cape Canaverval', published by Apogee. Highly recommended.Ed |
