NOSE JOB
KSC ground support crewmen Don Murray and Don Porterfield remove protective covers from the forward thruster nozzles in the nose of Columbia on April 7, 1981, during final preparations for rollback of the Rotating Service Structure for the launch of STS-1. Note Columbia’s nose cap and the pattern of heat-protective tiles.

Nice one!
I'm always amazed how clean the shuttles looked before they first flew. Now they look like a good well used truck that has been driven down a dusty road.

Yea, this is a good, not-often-seen shot. Thanks for posting!

Looks like a rather bizarre Easter egg to me!

Every week it's another interesting & unique photo! Ed, where do you find them all?

In my files! This particular photo I picked up at the still photo desk in KSC's press center the day after it was taken. I fondly remember friendly Althea Washington handing them out. This photo and dozens of others...
And I like the Easter egg analogy, Francis!
