A sight that has been seen only once in Shuttle history: two complete Shuttle stacks pass each other on the crawlerway on August 9, 1990. STS-35/Columbia (left) is rolled out from the Vehicle Assembly Building at KSC on its way to Pad 39A. STS-38/Atlantis is parked in front of the VAB following its rollback from Pad 39A the previous day for repairs to its liquid hydrogen lines. Once Columbia was hard down on the pad, Atlantis was moved into the VAB for destack operations. The repairs were necessary because of a frustrating series of hydrogen leaks, which effectively grounded the entire fleet for several months in the second half of 1990.

Ed, that is one of the coolest Space Shuttle photos I have seen. Do you by any chance have a high resolution copy?

Very cool indeed! If I didn't know it was real I would certainly think one stack was superimposed with the other! A great photo, Ed! I hope you continue your photo posts because they are incredible! Thanks!

I will try to alternate between "people" photos and "hardware" photos. Wait 'till you see the next one.
