Are there any plans to create an Artemis branch within the Astronaut Office? It was done with both Skylab and the Space Shuttle, when both projects were still in their early stages of development. I assume that, with the first crewed flight planned within 3 to 4 years that some astronauts will be focusing their work and efforts on the program as opposed to working in support of the ISS. |

There are astronauts who are assigned to technical positions supporting different aspects of Artemis, but thus far, NASA has not given any indication of it dividing the astronaut office by mission, or even setting up a subset for training, as it did with the commercial crew cadre. At this point, an astronaut in the office could be assigned to the space station or, within the next year or so, be selected to train for an Artemis mission to the moon. | |
