I've tried to stay on top of the discussion about the new lunar lander here on cS and elsewhere. The need for space as well as the capability of an air lock.I'd like your feedback on this idea. Why don't they use a structure like a node being used on the ISS as well as the airlock and the cupola to create the pressurized crew compartment for the LM? I envision the cupola on the forward end (for piloting) and the airlock aft to allow for EVA's. We've already built these things once, the second time should be easier and less costly. Obviously weight will always be an issue. Can those of you who are smarter about these things comment on the value of this idea? Tim |

There was an article a few months back in Air and Space magazine. The story is about the new LM. The description sounds similar to what you just proposed. The magazine shows more artist renderings than the on-line version, but the story and one image are available in this on-line account. http://www.airandspacemagazine.com/ASM/Mag/Index/2006/AM/soap.html
