Phillip S. Clark, who wrote extensively on the Soviet/Russian and Chinese space programs for the British Interplanetary Society and others, died in December 2020, according to spaceflight historian David Shayler. We will never forget him for his contributions to unravelling the mysteries of the Soviet/Russian and Chinese programmes. Such dedicated analytical research will probably never be bettered. His work lives on the in dozens of papers he produced for the BIS and in his 1988 work on the "Soviet Space Programme" for Salamander Books. He was also a contributor to Dom's [Dominic Phelan] "Cold War Space Sleuths." |

This is very sad news. Phillip was an authority, not just on the Soviet and Chinese space programmes but on most aspects of space research. I corresponded with him on a number of topics over the years and found him always to be most generous with his time. His book "The Soviet Space Programme" (published in 1988) is still a fascinating source of information from Sputnik to Energia. My sincere condolences to Phillip's family, friends and colleagues. |

Phil will be sorely missed by his many BIS colleagues for being a true gentleman and a legendary ‘Space Sleuth’. Godspeed my friend. |

Sad to learn of Phillip's passing. A renown expert, especially in Russian and Chinese rocketry. I remember first meeting him and Rex Hall at the Russian bookshop on Charing Cross Road in the late eighties. They helped inspire my interest in The Russian space programme and attend the BIS Forum annually. I enjoyed his presentations each year. His book on the Soviet Manned Space Programme was a classic at that time. The names of all the back up crews had just become known and he incorporated them in the book. I treasure my signed copy. The world of space sleuthing has lost another giant. RIP Phil. |

It's a must have reference. So good I have two... one mint for my library, the other for reading. Sad loss. |
