Former U.S. Sen. and astronaut John Glenn has been hospitalized, officials at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at Ohio State University told The Plain Dealer.
Kathy Dancey, Glenn's executive assistant at OSU, said she had no further information.

Glenn had heart-valve replacement surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in 2014 and suffered a stroke, but the exact illness leading to his hospitalization has not been disclosed. His health, including his eyesight, has declined in recent years.

"Anybody who's 95, any illness is always bad," said college spokesman Hank Wilson. Glenn is at the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State but that does not necessarily mean he has cancer, Wilson cautioned.

That's sad news to hear. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for him.

He was the first astronaut whose autograph I acquired. It was amazing to me that someone of his fame and stature always signed free of charge.

My son also shares his birthday. His memoirs shed light on just what a tremendous individual and historic figure he is and always will be.

I wish him well and hope that his health improves.

The man is the very definition of American hero. I've said it before on this message board and I'll say it again: God bless John Glenn.

I am hopeful he can pull through, but preparing for the worst. Anyone would be grateful to have lived the life he has. Astronaut, Senator, Hero.

And to have spent almost your entire life with his childhood love, Annie. That is an amazing thing.

This man, truly the definition of hero in many ways, is still here. A class act if there ever was one, signed more autographs than any astronaut ever, and they are all legible, not chicken scratch.

Annie has always been at his side the several times I ever saw him. Truly wishing him, God Speed, John Glenn. Exemplifies "The Greatest Generation."

Never met the man and never will. Read everything about him of course.

The embodiment of decency and kindness and a wonderful human being.

It's already been said, a true hero and a bright example of the human spirit. Get well.

Wishing Sen. Glenn a full and speedy recovery. He is a true gentleman. I enjoyed hearing him and Mrs. Glenn speak at Udvar-Hazy a few years back. If you get a chance to hear Sen. Glenn narrating his biography on cassette, it is a joy to hear. I play it on long drives.

I hate to hear that about Sen. Glenn - they don't make them like him anymore.

He has been sorely missed at the last couple of lectures in the John H. Glenn Lecture series at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. So thankful for the past opportunities to see and listen to him and wife Annie, and for the autograph be bestowed through the mail a few years back, which I will always treasure.

Sad to see this news. A great man. Thinking of him and his devoted wife Annie at this tense time and wishing them all our very best wishes.
