Astronaut Ken Mattingly celebrated his 80th birthday today. Selected as an astronaut in 1966, he flew as command module pilot on Apollo 16 in 1972 and commanded STS-4 in 1982 and STS-51-C in 1985.

Happy birthday Admiral Mattingly with many more to come!

I can confirm TK never contracted the measles. He wrote an inscription in a book for me to that effect at the Space Lectures event a couple of years back.

If Mattingly had flown on Apollo 13, and the Apollo program continued until Apollo 19, Mattingly would have been commander on 19?
